Everybody loves autumn; the golden shades of the leaves on the trees, pumpkin lattes, the crisp fall air and, of course, dressing for it all.  With the cooler air comes more layers of clothing which, in turn, makes dressing for this season tricky-tricky-tricky.

Here are some fashion faux pas examples and how to get it right.

Trench Coats

Fashion Faux PasTrench Coats are the perfect jacket for fall.  Not too heavy, not too light.  Designed to be a classic, if you want to get this right, stick to keeping it simple.  White is the new black and yes even after labor day, so..

White Tights

Unless your name is Alice and you’re visiting a place called Wonderland, or are 5; white tights are a no-no.  Tights are a great way to keep your legs warm and to disguise your unshaven legs, but do so in a color that doesn’t make you look like you’re trying out for the ballet.  Stick to warm colors, nude or black to make your statement this fall.

Nothing says “I have no idea what I’m doing” than putting together these mismatched pieces.  It shortens the leg and looks like you are confused as to which season it is.  If you must wear anything other than a sandal, please be sure the top of the shoe is below your ankle bone.

Unflattering Jeans

Finding the perfect pair of jeans is like finding a needle in a haystack.  There is so much to take into consideration; wash, style, length, fit…  It is hard to know where to begin but at least there are rules as to what shape should not wear what fit.  Hey, it’s a start.

Guaranteed to leave you with a muffin top, low rise jeans are just too low of a cut to flatter wider waist lines.  Instead, the waistband should hit just below the belly button to hold in the tummy and slim the torso.

The boyfriend jean is great for laid back style but can swallow a girl whole and leave her looking sloppy.  Stick with the boyfriend’s cardigan or button down with leggings but let him keep his jeans.  You don’t see him trying to get into yours, or, wait…

Bell bottom jeans give an hour glass shape but not to your overall shape.  Seemingly counterintuitive, the best shape for full figures is a closer fit with some stretch to hug the curves and not add extra bulk with fabric.
